Dilbert Issac is ready

New SP Hunters prop, Dilbert Issac, says four years of playing in the Digicel Cup competition has prepared him for the new challenge that lies ahead.

The 26-year-old from Simbu Province made his debut in the Digicel Cup for the TNA Simbu Lions back in 2014.

“In 2016 I played with the Hela Wigmen and last year with the Agmark Rabaul Gurias, which was my best year.

“So far I’ve played in two grand finals – in 2015 for the Lions and in 2017 for the Gurias. I feel I am ready.”

Issac admitted there is pressure on the new Hunters players to defend the Intrust Super Cup this season.

“With experienced players like Enoch Maki standing beside us, we’ll be prepared to defend the Cup.

“The senior players are always very helpful, encouraging us and mentoring us on and off the field.”

Issac said his main goal is to complete this season injury free.

“I want to make the first 13 every weekend.”

He added that the Hunters pre-season training in general is progressing well, and he can’t wait to take the field in the Hunters colours against his NRL team, the Brisbane Broncos.

“The first three weeks were very tough for us the new players, but we’re getting there.

“Pre-season training is going good and we’re all looking forward to the first trial match against the Broncos next month.”
