Dawanincura awarded Honorary Life Time Membership

President of the PNG Commonwealth Games Association, Sir John Dawanincura was yesterday awarded Honorary Life Time Membership to the Commonwealth Games Federation.

The award was presented by President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, Louise Martin, at the Federation’s Annual General Assembly on the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Sir John’s award honoured his long-term commitment to sport and the Commonwealth movement, over three decades, including the creation of the PNG Commonwealth Games association.

The Commonwealth Games was the first multi-sport games that PNG attended with Team PNG participating at the British Empire Games, the forerunner of the Commonwealth Games in Perth, 1962.

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will run from April 4-15. PNG is taking part in 10 sports.
