Dates set for NSL semi-final, grand final

The National Soccer League Board has confirmed the dates for the National Soccer League semi-final between Madang FC and Huawei PS United FC and for the grand final.

The semi-final will played this month on Wednesday, 16 August, while the grand-final will be staged three days later on Saturday, 19 August.

PNGFA Senior Vice President, John Wesley Gonjuan, said both matches will be played in Lae at the PNGFA Academy.

He added if the rain affects the field of play in Lae, then the finals will be moved to Madang.

Gonjuan apologised for the delay of the playoffs, saying the continuous rains in Lae plus election related issues spilling over to Lae and Madang were the reasons.

“Players’ safety is important,” said Gonjuan.

Defending champions Lae City Dwellers booked the first spot in the grand final after beating Besta United 2-1 last Saturday and will play the winner of the Madang FC and Huawei PS United FC game.
