Chung no longer PNGFA president

David Chung has resigned as president of the PNG Football Association when he resigned as president of OFC and senior vice president of FIFA.

This was confirmed by the senior PNGFA vice president, John W Gonjuan.

Gonjuan offered his gratitude to Chung for developing a number of projects like the National Soccer League, Education Centre and under 19 youth development project under the Besta sponsorship, among others.

“PNGFA is the legitimate member association of OFC and FIFA therefore continues to function as the national governing body of football in Papua New Guinea,” he said in a statement.

“To ensure good governance and accountability at all levels, the executive committee of the PNG Football Association will adhere to the statutes of PNG Football Association and comply with the process in electing a new president.

“In the meantime, its business as usual at the PNGFA,” he added.

Chung, who was the head of the smallest of FIFA’s six global confederations, suddenly resigned on Friday, surrendering his seat on FIFA’s ruling council and becoming the latest senior soccer executive to depart the sport amid accusations of corruption.
