Bigger plans for Fuzzy Wuzzy Nines

Bigger plans are in store for the Fuzzy Wuzzy Nine’s Competition.

Tournament Director for Fuzzy Wuzzy Nines, Manu Lofena, made this statement during the recent two-day tournament at Bava Park in Port Moresby.

He said since 2017, they were looking to take the competition out to the districts of either Koiari, Rigo, Abau or even to Bereina. However, since the competition name is a memorial for those who lent a hand in World War II, the ‘Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels’, there are plans of expanding the event.

“2021 will be the 80th Anniversary; we have bigger plans with that competition. We’ll be involving Tourism Promotion Authority and it will be their third year; we are planning to bring 10 clubs from the Pacific, 14 from PNG and we’ll be calling it Kokoda Nine’s Oceania Cup.”

Lofena said the competition was initiated by Kokoda Track Central Secretariat chairman, Philip Batia, and Matius Jack.

“The competition has become bigger and better in ways of promoting the name Fuzzy Wuzzy, the meaning of Fuzzy Wuzzy to the children of today.”

Lofena said the event is not only about competition but also about bringing understanding and respect to the true meaning of the word.
