Basilisk Marlins win Commander’s Cup

Basilisk Marlins were yesterday crowned winners of the 2017 PNG Defence Force Commander’s Cup.

This followed their 8-0 triumph over 2RPIR (Royal Pacific Islands Regiment) in the final in front of a packed Murray Barracks Oval.

It was Pharmiah Hannema who led the navy boys from Lancron to victory, striking a penalty goal midway through the first half followed by a fifty metre runaway try in the second half to seal the win over the boys from Moem Barracks.

For Hannema, the win was made extra sweet with the young private taking out the Top Point Scorer and Player of the Tournament award.

In the Plate, Goldie Warriors edged out 1PRIR from Taurama Barracks 5-0, while 1134 Crocs from Igam in Lae took out the honours for the Bowl, beating Air Transport Wing 15-5.

10 teams from different barracks and units in the country took part in the three-day tournament.
