2017 Hebou Shield to start tomorrow

Cricket PNG today re-launched the Hebou Shield – PNG’s first-class domestic competition.

This edition of the Hebou Shield for 2017 will see two teams battle it out for the Three Day Men’s competition, three teams for the One Day Men’s competition and three teams for the Women’s One Day and T20 competitions.

Games will start tomorrow with matches spread across June and July at Amini Park, Port Moresby.

The Men’s 3 Day teams are Hammers and Diggers. The Men’s One Day teams: Warriors, Cheaters and Hunters. The Women’s One Day and T20 teams: Diamonds, Piranhas and Sharks.

Director of Cricket for CPNG, Gayan Loku, explained that the Hebou Shield is a revamp of the CPNG National Championships, which is the avenue for selection for the Men’s and Women’s national teams.

He said the PNG’s first-class domestic competition first started in 2008 as the SP Super Series.

“The best male and female cricketers will be on show at the Hebou Shield,” he stated.

The Hebou Reds are the Men’s defending champions from 2016. There was no Women’s division back in 2016.

The Men’s Three Day competition and Women’s One Day competition will start tomorrow.

Men’s Three Day draw: Hammers vs Diggers (June 6-8) and Women’s One Day draw: Diamonds vs Pirates (June 6).
