Reports of those patients showed they had symptoms of respiratory conditions; 5 cases in NCD, 2 cases in Central/Gulf, one case in Lae, 2 in Kokopo and in Kundiawa. During the same period, St John Ambulance emergency team attended to 40 cases in all its call centres.

At the Nightingale Taurama Aquatic Centre, the new admissions as at 6pm on 13th November, had two cases who were not on oxygen, one on oxygen and 25 mild cases who were not on oxygen. There were 30 moderate cases who were on oxygen as well. There was one severe case on oxygen.

17K Vaccinated In Western

Dr Wuatai said COVID-19 measures and protocols are also being maintained.

Still in a lockdown state, Western Province health facilities have scaled down operations to allow staff to manage man power and resources in case of an outbreak in the hospital setting.

In Daru, the last COVID-19 admission was on September 27, 2021. Prior to that, there were five admissions; all were asymptomatic.

There’s been six COVID-19-related deaths reported at Daru Hospital.  Dr Wuatai said the number of reported COVID-19 cases has dropped though.

Covid-19 in Fiji: 41 new cases for Nov 10-12

This brings the total number of active cases to 821 since this outbreak began in April this year.

There were no deaths reported in the latest update on Monday with the toll still at 679 since March 2020, 677 of them from April.

Fiji's Health Ministry says a total of 52,326 cases were recorded, with 71 percent from the Central Division, 28 percent from the west and 1 percent of the cases from the eastern and northern divisions.

Fiji's daily average is 17 cases.

Of this, 31,244 have recovered and 436 have died. The newly reported cases as of Sunday 14th November were 32 out of 1,305 people diagnosed. Six deaths were also reported.

Meanwhile in Eastern Highlands Province, the first period of partial lockdown, the 2pm-6am daily curfew, has been lifted. The number of patients coming through the COVID-19 facilities have reduced, with only 10 in-patients currently within the facility.

‘Unvaccinated Pandemic’

He told the media on Monday that there is community transmission throughout the country, with all Highlands provinces in the red zone, including NCD, Central, Madang, Morobe and East Sepik.

Two border provinces, West Sepik and Western, have seen a reduction in the number of cases.

Dr. Daoni said all the provinces in the New Guinea Islands Region are experiencing an increase in the number of cases including Oro in the Southern Region.

“We have a big community transmission in the country and this is driven by the delta variant.

Health Expert Projects 4th Wave In March 2022

Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) Acting Director for Medical Services Dr. Kone Sobi said his projection is based on the first, second and third wave as well as models from across the globe.

“The first surge in July 2020 lasted for about eight weeks.  The second surge was in February 2021 then the third surge in September.

“So the surges are occurring six months apart,” added Dr. Sobi.

Vaccines don’t make people sicker if they get COVID

Victoria reports 860 new cases and five deaths, NSW 165 cases and one death

Today's daily case count is the lowest recorded in Victoria since 26 September, when the state recorded 845 cases, 695 of which were local.

There are now 17,518 active cases of the virus in Victoria, and 416 people have died in the state during the current Delta outbreak.

There are 378 people in hospital with the virus, of whom 78 are in intensive care and 48 are on a ventilator.

The health department said a further 71 people are in intensive care, but their Covid-19 infections are no longer considered active.

Austria orders nationwide lockdown for unvaccinated

"We are not taking this step lightly but it is necessary," Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said.

Unvaccinated people will only be able to leave home for a limited number of reasons, like working or buying food.

About 65% of Austria's population is fully vaccinated, one of the lowest rates in western Europe.

Meanwhile the seven-day infection rate is more than 800 cases per 100,000 people, one of the highest in Europe.

PNG caught between COVID and vaccine sceptics in pandemic battle

International concerns are mounting as COVID-19 continues to sweep through unvaccinated Papua New Guinea (PNG) where, according to Our World in Data website, only 1.7 percent of its population has been fully vaccinated.

The vaccination rate remains abysmally low, despite adequate vaccine supplies and aid from the Australian government and international organisations such as the Red Cross.
