John excited to don Kumuls jumper

21-year old Zev John cannot wait to don the yellow, black and gold jersey this Saturday, in this first representative match with the PNG LNG Kumuls.

During Thursday’s training, Zev said he was more than excited to represent PNG on home ground, where he first started playing rugby league more than 5 years ago.

The 21 years old from Western Highlands could not believe his luck when he was selected to play for the PNG LNG Kumuls against the England Knights.

Zev is based in Melbourne Australia, and currently plays for the Victoria Thunderbolts, the development club for the Melbourne Storms.

“I will put in a hundred and ten per cent this Saturday.”

Zev and the rest of the Kumuls arrived in Lae a day ago, to the warmest welcome of all, by his mum, his siblings and relatives.

 ‘’Seeing my mum after 2 years was a great moment for me. I was so excited to see her and my siblings.”

Zev moved to Australia some three years ago and is currently enrolled at the Victoria University, studying Bachelor of Sports Science.

This Saturday, he plays his first representative match.

His family could not be any prouder.

Mum Rose and sister Leah were extremely proud of him.

“Mi tok tenkyu lo PNG Kumuls husait selektim em. Mi hamanas . Ol can go for win.”

“I know that’s his dream. He’s always wanted to play like this and he told me, one he’ll play for PNG Kumuls. I have faith in my brother.”

Meantime the England Knights have arrived in Lae, and take on the PNG LNG Kumuls at 3pm at the Lae Rugby League grounds.
