Work starts on Police Communications Centre

Construction has started on the new Police Communications Centre at the Lae Central Police Station.

The contractor moved onto the site as of April 2nd.

The Lae metropolitan superintendent, Anthony Wagambie Jnr, says once completed, the centre will enhance police capabilities in serving the general public.

The building is funded through the PNG-Australian Policing Partnership (Australian Federal Police) “Wok Wantaim Mission”.

“We will partner with other stakeholders to fit out the Centre,” Wagambie Jnr said.

“We are seeing exciting times ahead. This command centre will bring change by lifting the standard of policing in Lae and the Northern region. This is something I have always wanted to see happen.

“As construction progresses, we will work behind the scenes to have GPS tracking equipment for police, police and security radio networking, CCTV and partnering with other stakeholders and business houses to make this become a state of the art complex.

“The Business community in Lae, through the Lae Chamber of Commerce, have been very supportive as well as Member for Lae.

“This is a work in progress.”

Wagambie Jnr said they are looking forward to enhanced policing for Lae, Morobe and eventually Eastern Highlands and Madang.
