Woman told to seek help

A woman who is facing an attempted murder charge has been encouraged by a court to go back and seek help and counselling regarding her situation.

Deputy Chief Magistrate, Dessie Kaputin Magaru, in dealing with the case on Friday said women must learn to manage themselves irrespective of the circumstances they face.

She said mothers are crying for tougher laws to be put on violence against women in the country and must lead by example.

She made the comments when encouraging 32 year old Sharon Kapi of Teremanda village, Wapanamanda, Enga province to seek help.

She is facing attempted murder charges after she stabbed her husband on his back at the Waigani market on 29 October last year following an argument.

Her husband was hospitalized as a result of the attack. He is the complainant in the matter. Both couple were present in court.

Meanwhile the detective investigating the case has been ordered to appear at the Waigani Committal court in the next two weeks to explain the delay in producing investigation files in court.

A police prosecutor asked the court to order the investigating officer come and explain to court the delay following unsuccessful attempts to get an update on investigations.

The matter had been before court since 16 November last year, following the arrest and charge being laid on 7 November.

After three months, prosecution have not received an update on investigations from the arresting officer who is known to the court.
