What prompted teacher's horrific killing?

The manner in which the Ialibu teacher in Madang was killed has sparked questions as to the reason behind such a horrific act.

The 28-year-old teacher was decapitated on April 3.

This incident ignited a series of events that led to another four deaths and an uprising in Madang which lasted for over three days.

Member for Madang, Bryan Kramer, says according to reports gathered, the late Sam Gawi was targeted.

The teacher’s head was hidden for over a week before it was handed over to the Governor for Madang on the 12th

Kramer said there are unconfirmed reports that the killing of the man was due to a feud brought on by his actions.

The member has also condemned speculations on cult activities, stating that according to reports, the man was beheaded and on closer inspection, it was a very clean cut.

“Hence it was a targeted and planned killing.”

His head was also wrapped in newspapers, then put in a plastic bag and buried, ruling out possibilities of cult activities.

Police investigations are already underway.

Meantime, 12 teachers from the Bau Primary School have requested to be transferred following the incident.

They say they do not feel safe in that area anymore.
