West Papua sees progress

The United Liberation Movement for West Papua is satisfied with the process of its request for full membership of the MSG.

Leader Benny Wenda expressed this after the status of West Papua’s request was announced yesterday.

Chair of the MSG and PNG Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, when announcing the adoption of agendas by the MSG Leaders as an outcome of their meeting, mentioned that West Papua’s request for full membership has now been progressed to the Secretariat for processing.

Leader of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua, Benny Wenda, expressed he was satisfied with the outcome.

Wenda said at least there is progress with their request and he is happy knowing it’s now before the MSG leaders for deliberation.

Wenda added, the MSG would not be completed without West Papua’s membership as Melanesians, just like the Kanaks.

O’Neill said the membership requirements for the MSG was also reviewed and adopted.

Meantime, delivering a statement as an associate member of the MSG, Indonesia pledged its full commitment to the MSG and towards PNG for the hosting of APEC.
