Weather Service workers strike adamant

A strike is looming as National Weather Service workers await appropriate response from the Departments of Transport and Personal Management regarding their salary discrepancies.

Despite directions from the weather office management to withhold their proposed strike until further notice, the PNG National Weather Service Working Committee is adamant to stop work depending on the outcome of the meeting with Labour department tomorrow.

The PNG National Weather Service working Committee says their grievances date back to 9 years.

To date, workers from the weather service are some of the lowest paid public servants in the country.

A series of meetings held with the Department of Transport and Personal Management saw an agreement reached between both departments and the workers for the outstanding payments to be paid by pay 26 which is due tomorrow.

However the working Committee has discovered that these payments are not ready to be paid out.

They say they Wil stop work indefinitely starting  tomorrow if their grievances are not honoured.

Meanwhile Director of the National Weather Service Samuel Maiha says the management recognises the issues as genuine  however consumers of the weather service should not be held ransom for these industrial matters. Maiha is calling on all staff to continue their services.
