We are legal, claims health association

The PNG Health Support Workers Association (PNGHSWA) has welcomed the call by Secretary of Personnel Management (DPM), John Kali, to seek legal opinion on the registration of the association.

The Association’s statement follows at the back of an article in one of the dailies.

General Secretary of the PNGHSWA, Jack Suao, says the registration of the association is proper and legal.

“We are prepared to defend ourselves when Kali wishes to take the matter to the courts,” he states.

“The Health Secretary should inform Kali of the notice of the registration letter from the office of the Registrar. Even the Health and Public Employees’ Association have not written their objections to the registration,” Suao says.

“Kali should not waste his time if he does not know the formalities taken to register the association. Instead, he should concentrate on other big issues that are affecting the country.

“We are here to wake you up from your sleep.”

Suao claims no amendments were made to the general orders, which are outdated but still in force after 41 years of independence.

He also states that the public servants who had been underpaid in the past should be recalled and given their underpayments, as well as appreciated for their “hard labours”.

“Illegal termination of any single member of this association will call for an indefinite strike action to take place to show how important we are,” the General Secretary warns.
