Wabag opens Legal Year

For the first time this year, the opening of the Wabag legal year was led by the PNG Defence Force band.

Residents of Wabag town, the capital of Enga Province, witnessed members of the legal fraternity and law and justice sector usher in the 2018 legal year.

It was also significant as the province welcomed Justice Ravunama Auka following his permanent appointment and swearing in as a judge of the National and Supreme Court for the next 10 years.

He had been presiding in cases at Wabag as an acting judge in the National Court for the past two years.

Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia, Justice Kenneth Frank, Justice Robert Lindsay and Justice Terrence Foulds from the Mt Hagen National Court, Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas, Enga PPC George Kakas, magistrates, lawyers and other judiciary staff were among those who took part in the march yesterday morning to open the legal year.

Members of the Royal PNG Constabulary and Correctional Service also participated in the event.
