UOG backs CLRC on Election Law Review

The University of Goroka has joined two other higher education and research institutions to back the current review of the Election Laws and other related systems.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed last week at the university campus in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province to seal the partnership between the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission and UOG.

As part of this Memorandum of Understanding, the University of Goroka will be conducting a series of seminars on certain key areas of the review in October.

UOG Vice Chancellor Professor Musawe Sinebare who signed the MOU with CLRC’s deputy secretary, Dorothy Mimiko Kesenga, said the university is looking at inviting key people from outside Goroka town as well, including those who stood in the elections to come and share their first-hand experiences on the elections.

UPNG and NRI are also supporting the CLRC conduct similar consultations.

Meanwhile the country is set to host yet another high profile regional event for the first time this year, apart from APEC.

CLRC will host the Australasian Law Reform Agencies Conference in Port Moresby from the 23rd to the 25th of October, 2018.

The ALRAC is a premier biennial event that brings together Law Reformers and agents in the Australasian region to network, discuss, and share experiences and ideas on law reforms.

CLRC Secretary Dr Eric Kwa said Just like APEC, ALRAC is another opportunity to showcase our great country and our potential to contribute Global advancement as well to learn from other countries so as to be on par with the rest of the World in terms of digital advancement and related laws.

Legal developments in the E-Commerce Law, Cyber Crime and law on E-Governance are among topics to be discussed during this meet.
