Traffic Police graduate after specialized training

Officers of the Royal PNG Constabulary Motorcycle Motorcade today graduated after a specialist training was revived and conducted by the Australian Federal Police.

The training was carried in conjunction with the RPNGC Traffic Directorate.

Assistant Police Commissioner for Operations, Jim Andrews on behalf of the Commissioner for Police presented the officers their medal to signify their completion of skill enhancement and practical training.

ACP Andrews thanked the Australian Federal Police through the Australian Government for putting into motion the initiative of training the members of the RPNGC especially the traffic division.

“Today we see our motor cyclist graduate after undergoing intense cyclist skill enhancement training and I acknowledge the AFP contribution in the development of the RPNGC since its establishment five years ago,” Andrews says.

Andrew says this training is very important as it will develop the capacity of the police of the force especially in the major operations in the police force as well as the international events and meetings that are taking place in the nation’s capital.

“This is a very important training that these officers have undergone that when the world leaders come here for meetings and visitations, their security can be ensured and can be able to return back to their countries without any situation.”

He adds that the training is a further lead up to the 2018 APEC Summit which will see a number of world leaders flying in the country.

“We need to assure them that their security will be guaranteed during their stay PNG.”

Andrews adds that the initiative for the AFP to assist the RPNGC is also very timely and important in the sense that officers have been taught to develop their skills in expert trafficking along with cyclist and traffic vehicle maneuvering when VIPs are to be escorted.

“PNG is part of the global village and the development of the force around the world, the RPNGC must be part of it.”
