Termination of weather service staff concerning: Association

The Public Employees Association will activate the industrial machinery to seek redress following the termination of its National Weather Service members.

The Department of Transport terminated 3 members of the Weather Service Working Committee for pushing the agenda of their salary discrepancies.

The Public Employees Association is concerned in the penal actions taken to terminate 3 members of the working committee and imposing a fine on all the NWS staff for taking part in the strikes organised by NWS between 2017 and 2018.

The PEA said the strikes were not illegal as requirements of the strike were in compliance to Civil Aviation Act 2000, describing the actions of Transport Department as abuse of workers’ rights.

The Union will not hesitate to bring the decimation claims to the Ombudsman Commission and abuse of workers’ rights to the Human Rights Commission and International Labour Organization.

PEA added they will not allow the NWS workers to suffer while the tribunal process is still ongoing.

A request for a secret ballot is before the Registrar to withdraw labour at NWS and repeal the terminations and penalty fines.
