Strong, ethical public servants needed

PNG needs strong, capable and ethical public servants to drive change in the country.

This was the message during the recent opening of a three-day public speaking and speech writing course for public servants from various government agencies.

Deputy Secretary Taies Sansan, from the Department of Personnel Management, told participants of the course that the qualities were essential to drive change.

She said the short course would improve their communication skills internally as well as externally.

“It is important that you take the learning back to your organisation and apply it where necessary and be the change agents.

“By transforming yourselves, other will see the change and will admire the leadership skills,” said Sansan.

The course is being rolled out by the Pacific Leadership Governance Precinct.

It was established through a memorandum of understanding signed in 2014 by PNG and Australia.

Under the agreement, Australia supports PNG to deliver a comprehensive program of education and leadership training to build the capacity PNG’s public and private sector leaders.

So far, more than 2000 public servants have undergone training under the Precinct.
