Stop N Shop robbed, suspect apprehended

A suspect has been apprehended after robbing a Stop N Shop Supermarket at Rainbow, in the nation’s capital.

Police in Gerehu caught the suspect along the Baruni road after the incident at around midday today.

Inspector Mark Mosinakave, who was at the scene, said four suspects robbed the supermarket and escaped in a stolen vehicle, which belonged to Justice Lawrence Kangwia.

Insp Mosinakave said the suspects stabbed Justice Kangwia in the shop, removed his keys from him and drove towards the Baruni road.

After hearing of the incident, Insp Mosinakave, whilst driving from Downtown to Waigani along the Poreporena Freeway, made a turn and headed towards the backroad to Baruni.

During that time, the suspects were forced to abandon the vehicle after the engine ceased along the road towards the Telikom station.

Insp Mosinakave then ordered policemen to search the entire area as they (suspects) would not have gone far on foot.

During the raid, they apprehended a suspect at a house while the other three ran away.

However, he said police will be arresting them shortly as their identities were made known to the police by the captured suspect.

According to police, the suspects ran off with cash from the cashier but they will confirm with the Stop N Shop management on the total amount.
