Sorcery suspects kidnapped and tortured

​Police in Enga have reported two victims of sorcery related violence over the weekend.

The two women, one aged 19 and the other in her late 30’s, were kidnapped on Sunday afternoon by a tribe from Pompopos village in the Wapenamanda area.

The women were suspected of sorcery following the recent death of a three year old boy.

Enga Police Commander, George Kakas, confirmed the reports adding that police were alerted of this incident late last night by concerned members of the community.

Kakas said that he received a text at around 11pm alerting him of the case.

Police and defense personnel were dispatched to the area and managed to rescue both women, however the older women succumbed to the injuries she sustained during the ordeal.

The younger women is now seeking medical treatment for her injuries.

PPC Kakas says that police personnel are now in the area to address the tribe.
