Several Lae schools will close today

Several schools in Lae, Morobe Province, will not have classes today (13th March).

This is mainly for schools that have taken part in the funeral service of former chief secretary, the late Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc.

Head teacher of St Paul's Lutheran Primary School, Mr. Genkawa, made the announcement during the Parents and Citizens (PNC) meeting on Sunday (yesterday).

"Schools who have participated in the funeral service of Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc will resume classes on Tuesday. Monday will be a holiday for those schools," he said.

St Paul's Lutheran Primary School was also where Sir Manasupe did his lower grades before transferring to North Goroka Primary School in the early 1970s.

Those schools who will skip classes today are St Paul's, St Mary's primary and Bugandi Secondary School.

Selected students from those schools lined the pathway into the St Paul's Lutheran Church, where the casket of Sir Manasupe was taken through for the funeral service before the burial yesterday (Saturday 11).
