Security high priority for 2018 APEC Summit

Security is of high importance for the 2018 APEC Security Partners Working Group agenda.

Office of Security Coordination and Assessment, Director General Ian Jinga in his address to the media about the APEC Security Working Partners Group says so far, this is the fifth partners working group that is currently in progress now.

The aim of the working group meet is to invite our neighbouring country forces to come and support PNG host the 2018 APEC Summit.

“Security is the pillar of the entire APEC 2018 meet and we need to get the security aspect right.”

Jinga adds that it is obvious that we do not have the key security capabilities to deliver security and this is the reason why we have the forces of the neighboring countries present here to assist us.

The APEC Security Partners Working Group is the avenue we have in place to hold our discussion.

First Assistant Secretary for the PNG Branch to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Geoff Tooth said Australia is delighted to be working with PNG on such an important event.

“APEC is one of the biggest series of meetings held anywhere in world and no country can host this without the assistance of other countries and their economies.”

Australia being one of the founding members of APEC, Australian Forces are here to help make the 2018 APEC Summit a success as this will be an extremely important event for PNG.

“The central to having a successful APEC Meeting and the series of meeting that come with it is security,” Tooth added.
