Residents warned against noise pollution

Port Moresby residents have been warned against creating noise pollution after 1am on News Years morning.

Any loud and unnecessary noise made after 1am on January 1st 2018 will be considered noise pollution and police will have no choice but to interfere.

The NCD Metropolitan police commander, Perou N’Dranou advised that police have also refrain from the burning of tyres as well as setting of rubbish drums on fire at street junctions and the main highways.

Police warn that any one resident that is caught by on duty patrol officers will be dealt with.

They are also discouraging residents from throwing debris and rubbish of any sort on the main highway as a way of celebration.

As per the new traffic laws such actions can be considered as criminal, hence any interference to the roads or highways would be considered a criminal offense which can carry a penalty of more than K5000.

N’Dranou says that with this in mind people need to be mindful of the bail processes adding that the Courts are on holiday hence residents may stand the risk of spending the first day of the New Year, let along an entire week in the cell blocks.
