Police in Manus are raising concerns over the reported attempted suicide cases in the province in the last three weeks.
The province received reports of three attempted suicide cases, two involving refugees.
Provincial Police Commander, Chief Inspector David Yapu said the reports of Refugees committing Suicide in Manus is worrying, and both PNG and Australian Governments should look into this situation or more deaths by suicide will take place.
On August 28 at the East Lorengau Refugee Transit Centre, an Iranian refugee poured petrol on himself and tried to set himself alight but his roommate intervened.
Another incident took place at the same facility on September 11 where another Iranian refugee attempted to hang himself in the common room.
Both men were taken to hospital and confirmed to be mentally unstable.
The third reported attempted suicide incident involved a ward 5 who locked himself in the room and tried to stab himself on his chest with a knife when his wife alerted the Police who rescue him.
PPC Yapu is concerned over the increased reported attempted suicide cases.
