Referendum roadshow in B’ville

The Bougainville Referendum Commission is conducting a roadshow in Buka, Arawa and Buin this week.

The purpose of the roadshow is for the BRC to update the people on the different activities that are being carried out in preparation for the upcoming Bougainville Referendum.

The roadshow in Buka will be held today at the Bel Isi Park in Buka town, to be followed by the Arawa event which will be held at Arawa town on Thursday, 30 May.

The roadshow in Buin will take place on Saturday morning, 01 June, at the Buin town market.

This will be an opportune time for people to attend and get updated information on the various tasks and activities that BRC has already undertaken or is currently implementing in preparation for the upcoming Referendum.

Apart from this roadshow, BRC is also set to commence its awareness within the wards and community governments in Bougainville.

These awareness sessions will be facilitated by awareness officers who have been recruited from each ward within the community governments in Bougainville.

The Bougainville Referendum is set to be held in October.

It will offer a choice between independence from PNG and greater autonomy within PNG. The result will be non-binding. This means that once the results of the Referendum are determined, the governments of PNG and Bougainville will consult on these results before any final decision is made.
