Reasons explaining move to be released: Basil

Member for Bulolo and Pangu Party Leader Sam Basil has still not made it clear why he and 12 other Pangu MPs have chosen to join the PNC led Government.

Today Prime Minister Peter O’Neil officially announced the move following days of speculations.

Sam Basil however did not give detailed information of the move.

He said he will be releasing a paid “advertisement” in the daily papers fully explaining the move.

But the once anti-PNC campaigner said Papua New Guineans have chosen the Government and now Pangu has done the same.

“We want the speculation to be put to rest that we have made out decision and we are happy to be joining hands with PNC.”

“Papua New Guineans through the elected members of parliament have made their choice to have PNC back to govern the country for the next five years. We’ve done our part in trying to change the government, (but) we don’t have the numbers.”

When asked about the move after his wide anti-PNC campaign during the elections, Basil said it was “politics”.

“This is politics. If you flip a coin, there are two sides, Government and Opposition. Government has Majority on the Floor; Pangu decides to join the government so that we can also be a player so that we can implement all policies.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neil welcomed the 12 Pangu MP’s and said election is now over and leaders must put their differences aside and work together.

“We will make sure that they become a solid part of our team. We will capture many of their policies they stood for. It is important that their principles and their policies are not compromised and as Government, we will accommodate many of those because we believe in the same policies as well.
