PPC concerned over officers’ accommodation

Police men and women, like any other public servant, need to be housed and accommodated well.

The welfare of police officers is as important as their duties.

This comes after concerns were raised on the living standards of some of these officers, especially in the Nuigo and Yawasoro barracks in East Sepik Province.

The provincial police commander, Robert Gesa, says accommodation is one of the major problems faced by the province’s police.

Gesa said one of the barracks has been condemned and to date, most of these police men and women, including their families, are living in this rundown place.

He mentioned also that the Yawasoro barracks has no electricity or water supply.

The PPC noted that it is a sad situation that needs to be immediately addressed.

“These men and women need better and improved living standards,” he stressed.

The PPC also mentioned that some of their behaviour can also be triggered by this situation; it is a must that their welfare is looked into.
