Post PNG aims to capture middle class market

Post PNG is diversifying its business because of drop in its traditional income on postage.

Post PNG acting chief executive officer Peter Tepu said the future for the government-owned business is to capture the growing middle class who will want to purchase goods online.

“One of the common products that are on the raise is E-commerce, a lot of people are ordering things online and Papua New Guinea is heading there,” Tepu said.

He said E-commerce had seen an increase in parcels sent using its vast networks.

Tepu said  the volume of mail has dropped at postal offices after the introduction of mobile communication which had made communication easier for Papua New Guineans.

“Although we have 40, 000 boxes nationwide, occupancy of those boxes has also dropped.

“Some are maintaining boxes for bills, the statements they get from various service providers. In terms of usage, and the volume had continued to decline dramatically over the years,” the acting CEO said.
