Police officers should not assault women: Turi

NCD metropolitan superintendent, Ben Turi, has warned that police officers who assault women will be dealt with.

“No police officer is allowed to assault any mothers anywhere around the city and I condemn any activities regarding my men assaulting women,” he said in a press conference yesterday.

“We are taking care of all disciplinary issues and a lot of NCD officers have been dealt with.

“We have dismissed a good number already and more in the pipeline until we clean out all the bad apples from the constabulary,” Turi assured.

He revealed that gender-based violence (GBV) was highlighted and discussed during their recent one week police conference in Kimbe, West New Britain Province.

Police Commissioner Gari Baki urged all the senior officers there to take lead in addressing women issues, including GBV.

Rogue officers in the Royal PNG Constabulary have been warned.
