Police confirm Sir John Guise crash

Port Moresby traffic police have confirmed the details of the vehicle that crashed into the Sir John Guise stadium fence on Christmas Eve.

The grey Toyota Grande is reported to be from the Office of the National Capital District governor.

Traffic Police Director, Joseph Joe, told Loop PNG it was allegedly driven by a Simon Nuyapo when the accident happened, at 3am, on December 24.

According to the stadium guards, the car drove out the intersection from Vulupindi Haus and instead of turning right towards the traffic lights, drove straight towards the opposite side of the road.

It slightly hit the bus stop stand before crashing head-on into the fence of the stadium, onto the beach volleyball court and going right under the sitting bench.

When Loop PNG reached out to Governor Powes Parkop for comments, he said he is yet to be briefed by his management.

Meantime, the vehicle remains stuck under the bench.

The stadium management said payment for the damages will be done before the vehicle is towed out.

Furthermore, the stadium guards said police arrested the two men and one woman in the vehicle.

(SJG management is adamant that the vehicle will not be moved until damages are paid for)
