Police apprehend suspect in Gr 10 student killing

A quick response by Lae Police has seen the apprehension of the main suspect involved in the killing of a student at Bumayong Lutheran Secondary School last Friday.

Several hours after the killing, the suspect was picked up by Police and detained with charges soon to be laid.

Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jnr said: “The suspect and deceased are Grade 10 students at Bumayong.”

Police have maintained presence at the school since the occurrence of the incident last Friday at around 10am. They are also providing security during the national Grade 10 examinations, which began on Monday.

While the situation is unfortunate for the deceased, who died two days short of sitting for his national examination, Wagambie Jnr is appealing to his relatives to not harm any school property or innocent students.

“Not all students are involved in this but a few in organised factions,” the Lae city top cop said.

Police are now working with the school’s board of governing council and its administration to ensure normalcy returns.

Wagambie Jnr is also calling on students to concentrate on their studies rather than involve themselves in illegal activities.
