PNGCF pays tribute to late Dr Niblett

The Papua New Guinea Cancer Foundation (PNGCF) has paid tribute to the Late Dr John Niblett for being a strong supporter of cancer control in PNG.

The PNGCF is saddened by the passing of Dr Niblett, who was the longest serving radiation oncologist at the National Cancer Treatment Center in Lae.

Dr Niblett passed away peacefully at Angau Memorial Hospital in Lae on Tuesday evening, July 4, after suffering from a short illness.

He worked as the radiation oncologist at Angau for nearly 30 years and was also one of the original PNG Cancer Foundation board members in 2014.

PNGCF chief executive officer Dadi Toka Jr said his team was privileged to have worked closely with Dr Niblett to increase the awareness of cancer control in the country.

In 2016, the PNGCF provincial programs team had the honour of sitting with Dr Niblett at the National Cancer Treatment Centre for a workshop on cancer treatment in Lae.

Toka said: “We were also honoured to learn about the many success stories of his time as the radiation oncologist in Lae.

“Dr. Niblett’s passing is a great loss to the country and medical community in PNG.

“Thank you Dr Niblett for your generous and devoted service to the people of PNG.”

On behalf of the board, management and staff of the PNGCF, Toka extended their deepest condolences to the late Dr Niblett and his wife Andrea.

Dr Niblett was fighting a court battle to have his final entitlements paid when he died. He was 78 years old.
