PNG-China relations reinforced

Given the increase in the Chinese population in the country, the China-PNG Friendship Association was established to serve and give back to the communities in PNG.

The association has been in existence for ten years now, forging a relationship that has benefited both countries extensively.

Over the years, this relationship has focused on impact projects through education, health, disaster reliefs and cultural exchange programs.

This partnership was celebrated yesterday, to commemorate the 10th anniversary.

The event was held at the Sir John Guise Stadium, from 6 – 9pm, hosting both the Chinese community and PNG.

The Association also recognised a number of organisations including Air Niugini and Digicel, whom they’ve partnered with over the years, to make their work in communities easier.

Certificate of appreciation were given to these partners, as well as the association’s presidents in each provinces in PNG.

The celebration saw PNG youth who’ve been involved in the cultural exchange programs, perform traditional Chinese dances.

Another main highlight were Chinese Acrobats and dance troops, who were flown in, from China, especially for the occasion.

Meanwhile, present as the patron and special guest was Grand Chief, Sir Michael Somare, as the man responsible for establishing the first diplomatic relationship with China back in 1976.
