PANGU ordered to meet

Members of PANGU party, one of the oldest political parties in the country, have been ordered by the National Court to hold a Council meeting from Oct 1 to appoint the party leader.

The meeting is also to appoint the deputy parliamentary leader of the party as well as members of the parliamentary wing.

The Waigani National Court today ordered that meeting to take place before October 8 after it found the two purported meetings of 19 and 22 February by two factions of the party, lacked quorum, and nullified them.

The quorum must consist of eight members and convene at the notice of the Secretary General as per the constitution of the party.

Justice Ere Kariko today also ordered for the council to call a meeting by 15 October and no later than 22 October at the office of the Registry of Political Parties and Candidates.

Members to be present should be the Party President, Secretary General, Treasurer, Parliamentary leader, the appointed members of the parliamentary wing, youth representative and others.

The agenda should be that of the purported meeting of 19 February 2018, which is to appoint membership of the council.

PANGU’s Secretary General is currently out of the country but will issue the notices when he return.

The party has been in factions since the 2017 National General elections, with the party President, Pundao and Secretary General Morris Tovebae arrested over allegations they misappropriated K50,000 belonging to the Pangu Pati, monies for nomination fees for 50 candidates to contest.
