Oro leaders to meet with Higaturu over K50m demand

Oro leaders will be meeting with the Higaturu Ltd executives today to present the compensation demand.

The relatives of the deceased in the road accident are demanding K50 million from the company.

Ijivitari MP David Arore told Loop PNG this morning that the company has been neglecting the people of Oro for years and not paying compensations whenever their vehicles were involved  in accidents.

“The people have shown their grievances and demand the company this amount because of the company’s neglect in paying compensations.”

Aore and Sohe MP Delilah Gore will be leading the team to negotiate with Higaturu oil palm.

Governor Garry Juffa reserved his comments at this stage.

Meanwhile, all shops, banks and service stations in Popondetta are still closed.

The road accident on Monday afternoon involved a PMV truck and an oil palm fruit truck claimed 13 lives while the other passengers are under treatment at the Popondetta General Hospital.

The relatives have blocked the road in front of the Oro Provincial Government office while some of the relatives have set up a haus-krai in the council hall.
