One Manus escapee still on the run

One escapee remains on the run in Manus after three more surrendered to Correctional Services.

This now brings the total to five arrested. They were further slapped with the charge of escaping lawful custody on top of the charges they were facing before they escaped on 31 December 2017.

The three who surrendered to CS officials are Walter Ted (24) from Lukum village, Pobuma LLG, who is on wilful murder charge, Potiloh Pokuwil (28) from Buliso village, Bupi Chupen Lelemadih LLG, on attempted murder charge and 19-year-old Manuel Popres of Tingou village, Tetidu LLG. He is facing armed robbery, break and enter and unlawful wounding charges.

Manus provincial police commander, Chief Inspector David Yapu, said only Ken Lomai from Likum, Pobuma LLG, remains at large.

Lomai is facing wilful murder charge and is awaiting trial in the National Court. This is the second time the remandee escaped from CS custody.

He was on the run last year and recaptured in early December 2017, only to escape custody again before the year ended.

PPC Yapu is again appealing to the community leaders and ward councilors in the province to assist Police to bring the escapee in as he is dangerous and is a threat to the community.

He said anyone harbouring the escapee will be charged by police.
