O’Neill asked to explain closure of TFS

Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, has again been asked to explain the closure of the Task Force Sweep Team today in Parliament.

Former Prime Minister, now current Moresby Northwest MP, Sir Mekere Morauta, asked O’Neill to clearly indicate and clarify why he closed the TFSW when it was really doing a fantastic job led by a prominent lawyer Sam Koim

Sir Mekere told the Parliament today during its first sitting, that the Task Force Sweep Team had been commended by so many people for the work they have done and called on the PM to explain its closure

“Why did the Government close the Task Force Sweep Team office?

“Is it because most of those allegations are pointing directly to members of parliament or otherwise,” Sir Mekere asked.

However, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill responded and said the Task Force Sweep was established by Government to investigate officers involved in massive corruption in the Planning Department.

O’Neill further clarified that the Government has introduced the ICAC bill to replace the Task Force Sweep but did not have the numbers to master the bill, therefore they will be introducing it again in this session of parliament.
