New water system for Barawagi Correctional facility

The Barawagi Correctional Service facility in Simbu will soon have a completely new water supply system.

This follows the purchase of a water filtration system at the cost of K70,000 by the Simbu Provincial Government.

The purchase of the complete water filtration system, including a water pump, is part of the Provincial Government’s plan to improve the Barawagi CS facility.

With the possibility of establishing a juvenile detention centre in the near future through partnership with the Correctional Service Department, Simbu Governor Michael Dua said the filtration system has the capacity to filter around 200 liters per minute.

Dua said water supply into Barawagi CS was an ongoing issue that existed for quite some time and through the partnership, they were able to build a 200L southern cross pump and have rehabilitated the left wing of the female detainees’ building.

The purchase of the complete water filtration system will now see the CS facility in Barawagi finally have access to fresh water.

Residents at the CS facility are currently getting water from the nearby creek to drink and cook. Governor Dua aims to fix basic things first and that includes simple things like water supplies.

He also committed to purchase a truck for the Barawagi CS facility to ease the ongoing problem of transportation.
