New fees follow changes in traffic rules

The changes in the new traffic rules and regulations will also come with new fees.

Most of the fees have increased.

The Motor Traffic (Amendment) Regulation 2007 had allowed for the current traffic fees.

That law had seen the fees ranging from K20 to K1,000 from drivers’ permits to licences and vehicle registrations.

The new traffic rules and regulations, approved by NEC in 2014, will come into effect on June 1st 2018 with new charges.

As per the Road Traffic Authority, the fees have increased as well as the penalties.

Under the Road Traffic Rules, licensing of drivers, issuing of learners permit, the issue or renewable of provisional driver’s licence, issuing or renewal of driver’s licence for 1 year, replacement learner's permit and the issue of replacement full driver's licence is now K55.

For vehicle registration, under the Road Traffic Rules, registration of motor vehicles will range from K255 to K900 depending on the type of vehicles.

Other charges range from K30 to K2,000, again, depending on the type of vehicles.

More information can be sought on the Road Traffic Authority website.

Transport secretary Roy Mumu has called on the public to make sure they are aware of the new traffic rules and charges.
