More UPNG programs to strengthen human resource

The University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) is planning to establish more programs to strengthen the human resource of the public sector.

UPNG School of Business and Public Policy (SBPP) Executive Dean, Professor Lekshmi Pillai, said to increase the public service human resource, the School has already embarked on new programs and infrastructure.

SBPP started a new program this year called Master of Economic and Public Policy.

In addition, construction on a new School of Business and Public Policy complex has commenced.

The complex is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia under the Pacific Leadership and Governance Precinct, which was signed by the Government of PNG and Australia.

The purpose of the precinct is to strengthen the public service.

Professor Pillai said the Australian Government has selected the School to develop the human resource of public service.

He said the new complex is a state-of-the-art building and it took almost one year to design it.

They visited various top universities in the world and accordingly made this building to be a learning facility so that students will have the privilege of enjoying their learning and having group discussion.

Professor Pillai added that the complex includes a cafeteria and space for lecturers as it is going to be one of the iconic buildings of the University.
