Mendi doctors, families to be evacuated

Doctors and their families in Mendi will soon be evacuated until it is safe for them to return.

The National Doctors Association says hospital services will be on emergency mode. The scale down started yesterday (June 18th).

For the time being, five medical officers will be on the ground to cover 5 emergency areas:

  1. Accident and emergency
  2. Medical/ICU
  3. Obstetrics and gynaecology
  4. Surgery
  5. Paediatrics

“The provincial police commander of Southern Highlands Province and army personnel are on the ground to protect remaining government services and gave assurance of protection to all hospital staff and property,” Dr. Justin Kali told NDA.

“Further assessment to be made at the end of this week before full services resume on Monday, June 25th.”
