Mediation a tool to fast-track backlog of cases

Mediation is a tool Judges and Magistrates can use to fast-track backlog of cases and achieve the 60 per cent disposal rate for mediation issues at the National and District Courts.

Chief Justice, Sir Gibbs Salika challenged 65 graduates comprising of Judges, Magistrates, Lawyers including heads of government agencies at the recent 8th Papua New Guinea accredited mediator graduation in Port Moresby.

Mediation is an Alternative Dispute Resolution process that continues to better manage, dispose and reduce the backlog of cases before the courts.

This is the 8th PNG accredited mediator graduation hosted by Alternative Dispute Resolution Services.

Sixty-five graduates comprising of Judges, Magistrates, lawyers including heads of government agencies and law lecturers received recognition after undergoing the training.

Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika said mediation is a tool Judges and Magistrates can use to fast-track backlog of cases and achieve the 60 percent disposal rate for mediation issues at the National and District courts.  

National Narcotics Bureau Acting Director, Nicodemus Mosoro said the training was equally important for heads of government agencies to deal and solve issues within their respective departments administratively.

The graduates were taught on basic knowledge about conflicts, theory and management of disputes.
