Media Council seeks equal access to media coverage for Aust GG

The Media Council of Papua New Guinea says common sense should prevail in the media's coverage of the visit of the Australian Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove today.

The Governor-General who will be acompanied by his wife Lady Lynne Cosgrove will fly in on the Australian Air Force Aircraft at 11 am.

Media Council President Alexander Rheeney made this call after local media have been rejected to cover a breakfast event with Australia Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull recently.

“The barring of local journalists from covering some parts of the Australian Prime Minister's visit early this month was unfortunate and should not have happened.

He said the Media Council hopes local media personnel are given equal access to cover the visit with their Australian colleagues, for the benefit of their Papua New Guinean audience and readers.
