Massive police awareness campaign for 2018

The police commissioner has promised to launch a massive police awareness campaign in the media.

Commissioner Gari Baki says the initiative will start in the New Year.

“This awareness campaign is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in all facets of police administration and operations whilst at the same time, inform and educate members of the public on law and order issues and their rights and responsibilities.

“Within the next few weeks and months leading up to APEC 2018, the Constabulary will focus mainly on reshaping its corporate image and this will include media awareness, reimplementation of disciplinary values across the organisation and more accountability at all levels of command and control.

“We will intensify our fight against police corruption and abuses, and target the reduction of public complaints against police in Port Moresby, the other major centres and all over the nation.”

Baki says he will be initiating an ambitious shake-up program where all outstanding cases of police abuses will be thoroughly investigated by the Police Internal Affairs Directorate, expedited and adjudicated upon without further delay.
