Manumanu land files missing

Land files belonging to the portion of land at Manumanu in the Central Province, where the PNG Defence Force was said to be relocated, are missing.

Minister for Lands Justin Tkatchenko said they were approached by the Inquiry to provide the land files, however, they could not be located.

Tkatchenko said he has been informed the Inquiry are currently preparing their report to present to the National Executive Council.

The land at Manumanu is the subject of an alleged K46 million transaction to relocate the PNG Defence Force, purportedly without proper process.

Meanwhile, the Minister has issued a ministerial directive for the Lands Department to be thoroughly searched for 60 land files belonging to Special Agriculture Business Leases (SABLs) around the country.

He said maybe the search could unearth other missing land files.

The Minister said they have begun the digitisation of land and land title files to ensure all records are permanently stored in a safe system and cannot be destroyed by people with vested interests.
