Man arrested over 67 counts of misappropriation

A man from Kokopo in the East New Britain province is answering to a total of 134 counts of misappropriation and obtaining monies by false pretense in the Committal Court.

Solomon Junt Warur has appeared in the Waigani Committal court where the allegations against him were read and explained to him in court.

He is in court over allegations he misappropriated a total of K875, 301.90 over a period of five years. He was charged with 67 counts of misappropriation and 67 counts of obtaining monies by false pretense.

Magistrate Cosmas Bidar said the allegations are not from a one off incident but 67 instances that took place between 2 July 2010 and 11 May 2015 in Port Moresby.

At the time of the allegations, he was a member of the PNG Correctional service, holding a rank of sergeant, as a communication officer in the ICT section at the Headquarters in Port Moresby.

He was responsible for ICT issues and maintenance in the office where he registered a company, allegedly containing ghost names as directors and engaged it to carry out maintenance and ICT machinery issues in the office for invoices at various amounts.

One of the allegations against him is that on 2 July 2010, he obtained from CS a BPNG Cheques K10, 450, for service and maintained of a Brother MFC printer, with intent to defraud the state.

Similar technics were used for 66 other counts where his company, was engaged.

His case will go through the Committal Court process, where police will produce a file in court for screening if there is prima facie evidence to put it for trial.

He remains on National Court bail of K2000.
