Low security risk at SHP university: Minister

There is minimal security concern for the Western Pacific University in Southern Highlands as police personnel will be on full alert to allow the completion of the school and intakes are guaranteed to attend come 2020.

This was the message from Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Pila Niningi, who gave the assurance that despite the senseless behaviour of a few individuals in the province, intakes to the intuition will not be halted.

In a media conference on Monday , the Minister, when questioned by TVWAN, said the Institution, to be built in Ialibu-Pangia, is located in a friendly environment.

He added that under his capacity as Minister, he will make sure the construction phase and proper fitting of the school is done to ensure the institution serves its intended purpose.

The Minister further added that the university will be situated in the Prime Minister’s electorate and will educate 6,000 students each year. It is earmarked to cater for people especially from the Highlands Region who face the challenge of sending their children away to universities in other parts of the nation.

The institution has been allocated 19 hectares of land and will have accommodation facilities plus other amenities that will include a library, lecture buildings and recreation facilities.

Western Pacific University will become Papua New Guinea’s 5th State-owned university and the 7th University in the country.
