Lelang calls for clarification on district grants

Kandrian-Gloucester MP and leader of the Coalition for Reform Party Joseph Lelang has called on the Minister for Fisheries, Mao Zeming to explain the remaining K27 million PIP submission for the Kimbe to Kandrian Highway.

Lelang said he only received K3 million from the K30 million submission.

“I want the Minister to come out and inform my people where the remaining K27million has gone to.

“Who knows this money may have being diverted elsewhere.

“While I acknowledge the K100,000 given to my district for the fishing project were allocated to the people of Tamuniai area who have voting population of only 30, it is hardly seen as a significant contribution.”

Lelalng said the District Support Grants (DSG) is a constitutional grant to districts in the country and it is very sad that many districts have missed out.

“My district has missed out too. I still have K2.5m yet to be given despite the fact that we already have certificate of compliance issued for our acquittals of K250,000 in 2012.

“We have not received DSG grants from 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.”

Lelang added that he has put on notice senior ministers, including Zeming highlighting outstanding issues in the DSG in November 2016 but none of the ministers has taken notice.

Lelang made this statement after defecting from the People’s National Congress back to his party the Coalition for Reform Party.
